On March 25, Orlando Orthopaedic Center officially celebrated the opening of their new 30,000-square-foot Downtown Orlando office with a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony. More than 500 guests, including Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando Commissioner Phil Diamond and Orange County Commissioner Mildred Fernandez, were treated to an open house featuring guided tours of the office’s state-of-the-art technology and rehabilitation equipment.
But more than that, the real emphasis of opening the new office is the company’s commitment on a heightened level of patient-first care, according to Orlando Orthopaedic Center Executive Director, Kevin Joyce. “We are doing everything we can to get to the highest level of patient satisfaction and quality of care,” he says. “This facility is a reflection of the commitment we have to being the leading orthopaedic center in Central Florida. From the leading edge technology, convenient location, innovative layout and design, it’s all meant to raise the bar of patient care to the next level.”
The design he refers to is the center’s unique layout and location, stationed within the trendy SoDo Shopping Complex off of Orange Avenue between Kaley Avenue and Michigan Street. The new office sits atop a modern designed mixed-use development and across from a brand new condo community. In fact, the location was chosen in part for its ample parking and the variety of retail stores, restaurants and coffee shops located within walking distance for patients.
“Most often when patients are going to the doctor, it’s something they aren’t looking forward to,” says Joyce. “By locating our new office in a mix-use environment like SoDo, not only do we get all the perks of moving into a new and decidedly larger space, but we give patients an outlet to relax, have a cup of coffee and enjoy themselves in a vibrant, urban themed community and that’s something they can’t get anywhere else.”
As much as the event served to welcome the neighboring businesses and residential community, it also served as a means to display some of the latest advances in the treatment of orthopaedic medicine. “We are proud to move into the new center and bring some of the leading edge advances to our field with us,” says Dr. Stephen R. Goll, MD. “With the technology and space available to us, it allows our team of 16 physicians to put a patient’s needs first, whether that be with an MRI, a digital X-ray, on-site physical therapy or even on-site medication dispensing.”
The main difference between the former office and the recently opened facility according to Dr. Goll, a recipient of the 2008 Healthcare Hero Award, aside from technology and location, is patient convenience. “I would say that’s one of the largest improvements, hands down. We are able to provide that same superior level of service but now it is certainly provided in a more patient-centered environment.”
Next up for Orlando Orthopaedic Center is the opening of their new surgery center later this year, which will be located next to the main office in the SoDo Shopping Complex. The 13,000-square-feet facility is designed to give Orlando Orthopaedic Center and its patients higher quality, control and convenience when surgery is necessary.
“With our new surgery center opening, when we do have to perform surgery it gives our surgeons and our patients another layer of increased quality and convenience.” The new centralized location allows for less hassle and increased familiarity with the team that will be handling some of the most important procedures in patient’s lives from check-in to rehabilitation. “At the end of the day, it’s really all about customer service and patient care,” says Joyce.
The surgery center is also an important piece of the continued development of the SoDo district as it will add approximately 30 new employees to the already 150 strong Orlando Orthopaedic Center employee roster. “As part of the growth process, we will be adding staff accordingly which serves as a win-win for patients, doctors and the surrounding community,” says Joyce. “Everything we do comes back to providing that superior patient experience and anything we can do to build on or improve that is a step we’re going to take.”
