Cysts

Cysts are closed sacs of membrane tissue which are foreign to the area of the body in which they are found.  Cysts can vary dramatically in size; some are microscopic while others are large enough to dislocate internal organs.

At the Orlando Orthopaedic Center our board certified specialists offer treatment options for those suffering from cysts.  Our fellowship-trained hand surgeons treat these and other complications of the hand and upper extremity.  If you or a loved one are suffering from cysts, turn to the experts at the Orlando Orthopaedic Center.

Cyst Treatment

Cysts can develop as a result of aging, genetics, infections, tumors and more.  The proper cyst treatment method is determined based upon a number of factors including: location of the cyst, complications caused by the cyst, the growth or progression of the cyst, and more.  Though some cysts are topical and visible with the naked eye; the majority of cysts develop internally and require MRIs, CAT Scans and/or x-rays for proper diagnosis.

Cyst treatment options generally include: draining or aspirating the cyst or surgical removal.  In cases which the cysts are a result of an underlying medical issue, treatment should generally be focused on the condition rather than the resulting cysts.

Cyst surgery

Removal surgery is the most common type of cyst surgery.  Biopsies are often preformed on removed cysts to eliminate any suspicion of cancer.  Catheters can also be surgically implanted to allow for the drainage of a cyst in cases where removal is not an option.

At the Orlando Orthopaedic Center our board certified specialists treat patients with cysts throughout the body.  Our fellowship-trained orthopaedic hand surgeons are prepared to diagnose, treat and/or remove cysts of the hands and upper extremities.  If you are interested in learning more about your treatment options, schedule a consultation with one of our specialists today.
