Sciatica

Sciatica is compression of the sciatic nerve which leads to pain, numbness or weakening in the lower back or gluteal area.

Sciatica Treatment

Relief from sciatica can sometimes be as simple as following a prescribed exercise and physical therapy routine while other cases call for more aggressive sciatica treatments.   At the Orlando Orthopaedic Center the specialists in our Spine Center provide sciactica treatment options for patients who suffer from all types and degrees of sciatic nerve damage.   If you or a loved one are in need of sciatica treatment, look no further than the Orlando Orthopaedic Center.

There are several sciatica treatment options available today.

Sciatic Nerve Treatment

The sciatic nerve begins at the lower spine and continues down the back of the leg and into the foot. Pressure or strain on the sciatic nerve causes discomfort ranging from a tingling or burning sensation to severe shooting pains in the lower back, leg or gluteal area.  Medications, physical therapy and surgery are all options for sciatic nerve treatment.

Sciatic Pain Treatment

Sciatic pain treatment often consists of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID).  In some cases your doctor may prescribe an epidural steroid injection to the spinal column.  While this may provide temporary relief it does not alleviate the problem.

Sciatica Surgery

Some patients experience significant relief from sciatica surgery, one such surgical procedure is a laminectomy.   In a laminectomy the posterior arch is removed to relieve pressure on the pinched nerve.  In patients with spinal stenosis, the piece of bone that is placing pressure on the sciatic nerve is removed.  Though sciatica surgery is not the answer for all patients, it is treatment option that should be explored after less invasive treatments prove to be ineffective.

At the Orlando Orthopaedic Center our fellowship trained spine and neck specialists use state of the art techniques to treat sciatica.  From nerve treatment to sciatica surgery, our specialists are here to help you through every step of the treatment and recover process.   If you are in need of sciatica treatment, schedule a consultation with one or our specialists today.
