Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a curve in the spine that is generally developed in children as they experience growth spurts.

Scoliosis Treatment

Unfortunately scoliosis often goes unnoticed until the curve is exaggerated.  In most cases a scoliosis patient is monitored closely to ensure the curvature does not progress.   Because there is a wide variance in the severity of each scoliosis case there are a number of scoliosis treatment options available.  Patients with mild to moderate cases are often treated with a brace.  Braces are only effective in children and young adults who are still growing.  If a patient is still suffering from scoliosis, and is no longer showing signs of growth, they are likely a candidate for scoliosis surgery

At the Orlando Orthopaedic Center the specialists in our Spine Center treat scoliosis with state of the art techniques and equipment.  If you or a loved one are in need of scoliosis treatment turn to the Orlando Orthopaedic Center.

Scoliosis Surgery

Scoliosis surgery is an extremely complicated orthopedic procedure which generally takes about 6 hours and requires months of physical therapy.   Those who have a curve in the spine of 40° or more are candidates for scoliosis surgery.   Rods and screws are put in place to correct the curvature and provide stability to the spine.  The scoliosis surgeon will choose to either take a posterior or an anterior approach, to the surgery, depending on the location of the spinal curve.

Because scoliosis surgery is so intensive and requires impeccable technique it is very important to select a scoliosis surgeon with plenty of experience and expertise in scoliosis treatment.
