Raised in Salamanca, New York, Dr. Bonenberger attended North Carolina State University where he earned his B.S. degree in zoology. He earned his M.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his internship in general surgery at Fairview Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Bonenberger completed his orthopaedic surgery training at the Boston University Medical Center. Following his residency, Dr. Bonenberger completed an Adult Joint Reconstruction Fellowship at the Boston University Medical Center. He has been published within the field of Orthopaedics and has presented his research at several national Orthopaedic meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. During his training, he was involved in the care of athletes at the high school and college level.
Dr. Bonenberger joined the staff and physicians of Orlando Orthopaedic Center in 2008. Before moving to the Central Florida area, he served as Section Head of Adult Hip and Knee Arthroplasty at Naval Hospital in Jacksonville. There, he specialized in hip and knee replacements and implemented a comprehensive joint replacement pathway. This included minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, computer navigated joint replacements, and unicompartmental knee arthroplasties. Dr. Bonenberger was Associate Professor at the University of Florida and Shands Jacksonville where he performed primary and revision joint arthroplasties. He was involved in resident education including surgical cases and teaching conferences.
Dr. Bonenberger is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Florida Medical Association and Florida Orthopaedic Society.
